As a long time very successful merchant services rep, I am frequently amazed at how little merchants understand this cost center in their business. I know that owning a business has many things constantly pulling on the owners and sometimes, things like analyzing their monthly credit card processing statement, is not high on their list. Especially, in todays difficult economic climate, cutting expenses in any way, is crucial.

My success has always come from educating my merchants with the goal of developing, and maintaining, long-term mutually rewarding relationships. With the internet, my desire to educate has been greatly expanded beyond my local market, here in Michigan. When looking for credit card processing, it's very important to compare. Remember to compare apples to apples and make sure who ever you are considering explains everything until you understand it even if they have to tell you 100 times.

Excellent point made! As I continue to encourage merchants out there...you need to get educated about this cost center in your business. This industry has potential for an excellent income for successful reps so it attracts a lot of salespeople. However, after being in the field for a while, many discover how difficult it is to make a go of it because of how competitive it is. Consequently, we tend to see a high turnover of reps and a great number of the feet on the street, don't have a total grasp of the industry. They received their half day of training and were sent into the field. As a result, many of them don't have the ability to explain everything thoroughly enough for a merchants total satisfaction. Again, this is why I say that merchants have to take it upon themselves to get the necessary education. A good place to accomplish that is right here .
