Can someone explain the difference between Items and Class in QB. I think I am way over thinking this. Would you sometimes have a CLASS and an ITEM with the same name?
For example, CLASSes are used to track different segments of a business. QB gives an example of a contractor having classes such as kitchens, baths, decks. Then later on the lesson it explains items and tells you how to set them up and the example is for a contractor with items for kitchen and decks. Would these entries sometimes serve the same purpose or no? Thanks a bunch! |

Items are the things you buy and sell in your business. You can use these for job costing. Classes are best used to separate divisions or locations.
An example might be the contractor using kitchens as items, and perhaps sub-items for things related to kitchens. The class could be used as a breakdown of the counties or cities, if he needs that information. Hope this helps and yeah, welcome to AccountingBLOCK ![]()
