    Default Obtaining clients

What is the best way of obtaining clients? I have an accounting, tax, Quickbooks, and payroll services firm in Hartford, Connecticut, and I would appreciate some helpful advice.

    Thank you,

OK, I admit it. I am considering the same topic. I propose a bold solution.

FCC exempts micro FM and AM stations from regulations. Modern electronics
enables "hobbyists" to broadcast up to 1 watt AM or 100 watt FM.

    Listeners
2 mile diameter in San Jose CA or Boston Mass = potential 100,000 listeners.

    Content
Web feed in mp3 or equivalent.

Sound ingenious! Do you think the FCC will do this. Please keep me informed. It would be a great way of building up a client base for accounting and tax firms. Do you have an accounting practice now? Where is it?

A radio station? That potentially no one knows anything about. Why not be creative about it and do some work for a non profit which could get you some free pr on the radio, get a website and give away a free prize to entice people to come to the site. Do a 1 month free trial or some piece of work for free, discount etc? Few ideas to be thinking about there.....

Default Low Power AM Radio & FCC Regs.

FCC regulations exempt radio stations with less than (estimate: 1 watt). Modern equipment
affords a .5 watt AM station 2 mile broadcast diameter. Installing a second transmitter
"boosts" coverage to extend over the majority of a "little" city like Reno Nevada.

If I could discover 2 partners to start the station, with $2,500 seed money, we could rebroadcast
dozens of lesser known syndicated radio shows via internet stream and create/sell radio advertisement
including business accounting and/or tax services.

Equipment is "off the shelf". "Tune to 1520 AM for Airport Info"

I have an accounting practice on Long Island NY, and too am looking to expand my practice and increase my clientele. Have you tried attending Networking meetings or joining your local chamber of commerce. What about trying to write an article for your local paper, or getting out a press release. Anything you can do to get more visibility into your business and get people to know about it will help bring business to your door. Are you on any social networking sites? Best of luck with your business!

Default Chamber of Commercial and Social Networking Sites

There are a bunch of other CPAs attending the Chamber of Commerce meetings: it appears that the Chamber attracts real estate agents, CPAs, attorneys, insurance agents, bank managers, and all those looking for clients; however, very few potential "clients" attend, since they are too busy managing their businesses...LOL!

By social networking sites, do you mean twitter or linkedin? Not quite clear what you mean.

Thanks for answering. Good luck in building your practice on Long Island.

You're welcome. And,yes I do mean Linked In, Twitter, Facebook, etc. Maybe try posting an informative video on YouTube. Those seem to be popular these days. Again, best of luck. If I think of anything else I'll let you know....

Social networking is good. I have found that chambers out here sound a lot like yours. However, there are other small networking groups in the area that I attend and that seems to help.

    Try this:

Default Social Networking for Certified Public Accountants

Thank you so very much for your informative and helpful replies. I deeply appreciate them.

I have been posting on twitter and facebook and linkedin. Unfortunately, I don't think they resulted in any calls to the office; however, it's hard to tell, since there is no way to trace them.

I do host a blog: The Barefoot Accountant, where I attempt to keep the subject matter light and entertaining for the general public. But I will try youtube: that's an excellent idea. I use youtube all the time, as you can witness on my blog.

I would be interested in seeing any of your postings on the social networking sites, if you would like to share them.

Again, my sincerest thanks. And if I can in any way assist any of you, please let me know.

Looking forward to hearing from you again,
