We are looking for a highly motivated self-starter to fill a critical support position in our Berkeley office.
The primary responsibility of the Bookkeeper/Office Manager is to maintain the accounts of International Rivers in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Additional responsibilities include ensuring the smooth operation of International Rivers’ office and providing administrative assistance to the Director of Finance & Operations. Responsibilities: The primary duties and responsibilities related to accounting are to: - Process all accounts payable, accounts receivable and cash receipts, including data entry in the MIP accounting system - Maintain A/P, A/R, vendor, and independent contractor files - Reconcile all International Rivers’ business credit card invoices against receipts - Reconcile monthly reports from satellite offices - Distribute and collect monthly timesheets, and enter into Excel - Prepare budgets for grant reports; assist with budgets for grant proposals - Produce 1099s for vendors - Assist with preparation for the annual audit and tax filing - Assist with preparation of the annual budget - Other duties as assigned The primary duties and responsibilities related to office management and admin assistance are to: - Coordinate logistics for off-site meetings - Coordinate ergonomic evaluations for staff and procure recommended equipment and/or furniture - Maintain office space, supplies and general equipment, and coordinate onsite and offsite storage - Assist with coordinating International Rivers’ office relocation, scheduled for February 2009 - Reply to job applicants as directed; assist with scheduling interviews as needed - Other duties as assigned This is a full-time position based in International Rivers’ headquarters in Berkeley, California. The Bookkeeper/Office Manager reports to the Director of Finance & Operations. Skills and Experience Required - Minimum two years' experience as a full-charge bookkeeper, preferably in a non-profit organization - Minimum two years' experience as an office manager - Demonstrated knowledge of fiscal accounting principles, methods and procedures - Excellent attention to detail and data entry skills - Excellent analytical and communication skills - Ability to work both independently and as part of a team - Ability to manage multiple, simultaneous tasks well, and work efficiently under time pressure - Highly proficient with Excel and at least one general accounting software such as Peachtree - Initiative and motivation - Associates degree in accounting or related field, or equivalent experience Desired Qualifications (preferred but not required) - Proficiency with a double-entry accounting software program such as Sage (MIP), Cougar Mountain or Blackbaud - Knowledge of fund accounting Salary and Benefits Competitive non-profit salary, plus excellent benefits (including vacation, 401(k) and health insurance).
