North Atlantic Books has been publishing dynamic trade books in alternative health, somatic bodywork therapies, martial arts, and spiritual consciousness since 1977 in Berkeley, California. Today we have a staff of 22, distribution by Random House, and are discovering new voices in literature, Fiction in Translation, food and diet, parenting, cultural studies, and environmental books.
We are looking for the right person to join our finance group as Finance Assistant to help meet our publishing and organizational goals. The position is responsible for a wide range of tasks within the Finance department, ranging from financial reporting and transactions, to supporting accounts payable and receivable activities. The successful candidate will be organized, professional, and motivated, with superior reporting and spreadsheet skills and a desire to achieve the highest levels of financial activities. The position is based in Berkeley, California and reports to the Associate Publisher/Managing Director and works closely with the General Manager and Staff Accountant. Primary Responsibilities •Responsible for accounts receivable activity, including creating statements, filing payments, and tracking receivables activity. •Manage inventory activities, including resolution of errors, enforce inventory policy, and review transactional data. •Prepare and distribute sales reporting from various distribution partners. •Act as additional contact for financial questions and issues. Duties •Manage log of daily accounting mail •Research and resolve inventory database errors •Review invoices, transfers, transactions, and credit memos •Coordinate AR activity including filing payments and tracking receivables •Import and input distributor sales in Acumen system •Prepare and distribute distributor sales reporting, troubleshooting for any issues or errors •Coordinate credit requests •Coordinate rights invoicing and activity with Foreign Rights Manager •Assist with Accounts Payables transactions and reporting •Create and distribute various financial reports •Assist in preparation of standard adjustments for royalty contracts •Other projects and duties as assigned Job Specifications •2+ years relevant job experience •BA or equivalent required •Demonstrated ability with financial reporting and applications •Self-starter required with desire to learn new programs •Strong attention to detail •Ability to effectively present information and respond to queries •Strong written and verbal communications skills required •Knowledge of and affinity for North Atlantic subject areas a plus This is a full time, hourly position at a competitive rate and an excellent benefits package including medical, dental, 401K, employee discount on books, and a pension plan.
