Larkin Street’s continuum provides a range of housing options—from immediate emergency shelter to permanent supportive housing—in addition to essential wraparound services that offer kids the resources and skills they need to exit street life. Supportive services include education, technology and employment training; healthcare, including mental health, substance abuse, and HIV services; and case management.

Our success rate in helping kids get off the street for good testifies to a simple truth: Given safety, shelter, compassion, guidance, and enough positive options, kids can find their own solutions. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

The General Ledger Accountant is a critical member of the Accounting team whose primary role is to prepare journal entries, ledger account reconciliations and schedules, and maintain and analyze accounting records. The General Ledger Accountant will perform work to ensure compliance with Larkin Street Youth Service policies, generally accepted accounting principles, and internal control guidelines. In addition, the General Ledger Accountant may work to prepare public funding invoices and meet deadlines, The General Ledger Accountant may prepare key reports for public entities and work independently with outside vendors, subcontractors, public agencies, and internal staff in order to complete his/her responsibilities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

GENERAL ACCOUNTING AND FINANCIAL ANALYSIS

•Prepare and post journal entries
•Reconcile subledger and bank accounts
•Reconcile donor database to financial system
•Prepare organization external and internal financial statements

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

•Participate in development of annual operating and capital budgets
•Prepare budgets and cost reports for funding agencies and donors
•Lead components of the annual audit process
•Prepare tax and regulatory financial statements or reports
•Lead special projects and audits
•Other duties as directed by supervisor


SKILLS AND ABILITIES
•Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, Powerpoint and Outlook)
•Clear understanding of accounting principles, management accounting methods, government accounting policies, cost allocation procedures and internal control
•Knowledge of GAAP and FASB
•Ability to use experience and judgment to manage goals and projects
•Ability to be a self-starter with follow-through skills.


ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
•Bachelors in related field (finance, accounting, business)
• 4+ years of progressive accounting experience.
•Understanding of non profit accounting and experience with public funding contracts
•Nonprofit experience with MIP accounting software a plus, but not required.
