Status: Regular Full-Time

Our company uses brain research and patented technologies to increase comprehension and learning. We develop the Fast ForWord family of learning programs, which allow children and adults to greatly enhance their language and reading skills.

Overall Responsibilities:

Responsible for management of the general ledger, accounting systems, payroll, accounts payable, sales taxes, royalty reporting and monthly financial reporting. Supervise a staff of four. Act as a key resource for solving accounting and reporting problems both within the department and throughout the company. Work with the Business Systems department to develop improved accounting systems and reporting tools.

Detailed Responsibilities:

1. Review all standard journal entries and monthly account reconciliations
2. Responsible for royalty reporting
3. Coordinate the monthly close
4. Prepare the monthly financial statement package
5. Review Accounts Payable batches for accuracy and distribution
6. Assist in preparing SEC reports
7. Coordinate the quarterly reviews and annual audit by external auditors.
8. Maintain the general ledger by creating new accounting units and general ledger accounts as required
9. Monitor and enforce control activities to ensure SOX compliance.
10. Play key role in any accounting systems improvements
11. Act as the liaison with Business Systems for support of accounting systems
12. Key player in special projects, e.g. acquisitions, reorganizations, etc.
13. Supervise Staff in the following:

1. Preparation of sales tax returns
2. Commission accounting activities
3. Payroll accounting
4. Service revenue accounting and reporting
5. Fixed assets accounting

Requirements:

1. College degree in accounting or finance
2. CPA preferred
3. Strong technical accounting skills
4. Proficient in and comfortable with sophisticated accounting and reporting systems (experience with Business Objects and FRx a plus)
5. Two to three years of management experience required
6. Enjoy a fast-paced, constantly changing environment
7. Experience in software industry a plus
8. Public company experience a plus
