Thread: Foreign Student in U.S. for over 5 years

Can you please advice if I have to file tax returns for 2008? I have been in the U.S. as F-1 for 4 years, then switched to H-1b, and now in F-1 again for over a year. I didn't have any income from the U.S. in 2008, but worked short-term in a foreign country. I already paid taxes in that country.

I am not sure if I can still be an exempt individual under F-1 for 2008. Or I just don't have to file at all, since I did not have U.S. income for 2008 and I am in F-1?
