    Post Help with taxes situation

    I'm finishing up college and living with my parents still and at the start of my job/internship last March, I ended up claiming 1 for student loans. Apparently I wasn't supposed to claim any at all and I didn't know this. I'm being told I might not get any of my money back from taxes, would this be true?

    I don't understand why it would be bad if my father is claiming myself and I'm only claiming my own loans for school.

    Any ideas?

    You cannot be claimed as a dependent if your gross income was more than $3650.

    Taxes usually don't follow conventional wisdom so it is no point discussing why you are being taxed etc.

    Can you elaborate on your situation little further with numbers?

    I made over $9000 in 2009.
