Hello, I am new here and would really appreciate some input. I have decided to go into a career in accounting. Something more than bookkeeping. I have no work experience in the field whatsoever, yet i have a BA in liberal arts. I need some input as to what degree is best for me. i've heard that it's better to get a masters if you already have a bachelors degree, but don't i need some basics first? will i get some foundation courses in a masters program in accounting? I don't plan on getting my CPA. Thanks alot!!!

Well, first of all, if you really want to pursue a career in accounting, you need to think about getting your CPA. Otherwise you will probably always be viewed as a lower-level employee.
The Masters of Accountancy is a great way to go, especially if your state CPA licensing requirements involve a certain number of hours of accounting credits. An MBA is always a good idea, as well, but you'll want to make sure you obtain the necessary credit hours for any professional accreditation you desire (CPA, CFA, etc.). In my experience, which school you go to is more important than which degree you obtain. I wouldn't get a second bachelors.
