Hi.
I recently became incorporated in PA on the past year and got an accountant since I knew I could not do my taxes on my own anymore. He set up everything for me and filed my payroll taxes for 2nd & 3rd & 4th Q of 2008 along with annual W2 forms. I also had given him my personal taxes to file as well. As of today, I have the delinquent office for corporate taxes stating 4th Q 2008 is not completely filed (which they have contacted me twice to state and I have contacted my accountant twice to tell him) and I just received a call that the 1st Q 2009 has not been filed and also contacted my accountant about that. I also just recieved a letter from IRS stating my extension was filed late therefore it has not been approved. I contacted my accountant and he is on vacation until the 22nd. My question is what should I do? It seems as if my accounant could care less about my taxes and many times I call him I talk to a answering machine and when I do talk to him I get an answer as if the office that is contacting me made the mistake and he will easily fix it. I plan on trying to find a different accountant but want to hear others opinions as what I should do. What happens to the penalties and interest? Will he pay them if I end up going to a different accountant to file the taxes he has not been doing? |

In general go with the accountant you have confidence in and where you can get support for problems.
Along those same lines just because an agency says you're wrong, late or whatever doesn't mean it's actually true. It does mean that it has to be investigated and reconciled to determine where the problem is. Was it filed, when filed, was the right number used, did the agency post it elsewhere, etc.... Another important part is who was responsible for making the deposits and estimates, you or the accountant. If there are no taxes due then no penalties and interest. One course of action is to see what the current accountant does to resolve these issues. If not satisfied then move on. If you're actually wronged and the loss is large enough then consult an attorney. |

YOu must seek help of a tax consultant now. He/she would help you at every step of your case and clear all doubts regarding tax filing. Search for a consultant who has considerable amount of experience in the field.

The suggested thing to do is to look for a certified accountant who will fix things immediately. It must be filed soon so that everything will be in their proper places.

What I would do first, is just drop in at the office of the person that caused all this. There is of course a change that everything was proporly filed, but that some paperwork got misplaced at the IRS.
I would first determine where the actual fault was made, and then go from there. If your current accountant DID file everything, but somebody else misplaced things, then it would not be right to accuse him/her. However, it is strange that they are not returning your calls, and therefore I would drop in the office this week. |

I agree,go to the office or personally talk to your accountant, set an appointment to the company he/she was involved. If you talked to them and they said they will fix it,ask for a specific range of time they will finish it unless they will pay the interest of mistake from filing taxes late.
