    Default Payroll services question

    Hi,

I just found your forum and hope someone here can help me. I work for a small company with fourteen employees. All but two are hourly, two are salaried. The company has been using a local payroll service to do the payroll for us. Today I learned the payroll service has been billing our company for 16 hrs per pay cycle (every two weeks).

To me, this seems excessive for only fourteen employees, but wanted to ask around, first. What kind of time do you allow on a per person basis to run payroll? They calculate time cards, calculate unemployment and L&I, enter data, cut checks, and run payroll reports.

Is this typical to take that long to run payroll?

Thanks in advance for your insights.

    Vicki

I provide payroll services to my clients and seems like your payroll provider is really charging you a lot of money.

Hypothetically speaking, if I were to do payroll for 14 employees (doesn't matter hourly, salaried or contract) it would not take more than 30 minutes every other week to do payroll. You provide the hours, software calculates everything and bingo... they get a direct deposit or you print the checks. Just $50/month

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

    Default payroll service

I agree with Zahid, they are charging you a lot of money for the payroll service. Basically, the computer software does it all, you don't have to do anything manually. Once you enter the information into the computer system, should not take more than 10 minutes to print checks and run the reports. I would say even two hours would be too much, they typically charge in a per check basis instead of hours and goes anywhere from $5.00 to $15.00 per check.
You didn't mentioned if they take care of the payroll deposits of if you do that on you own?

Yes, I agree preparing payroll for 14 employees with 16hrs/per pay cycle is too much!!

So does anyone know of good small payroll processing companies? In CA or virtually? I would like to outsource this for my firm as I do mostly financial statements and tax work.

I would like to offer our services. We offer a full service payroll option. We can cut checks, and mail them or we can do direct deposit. Employees can have online access to payroll stubs, and employers can have online access to all payroll reports (if they so choose). We file all forms and pay all withholding tax. We even send W-2's and 1099's at the end of the year.

Please let me know if we can be of service. You can e-mail us at services@sequoiapayroll.com and we can talk about other benefits including price...

    Thumbs up

    Hello guys!

You may assume that any payroll software will fir t any company. Not so. What is a standard payroll problem for your company may not be standard at all. So make the best investment you can make when selecting software. Before you shop, decide what you need from software. That way you're less likely to buy a product that you'll find won't do the job.

You would be better off to purchase a payroll software package - the outside firm appears to be overcharging you. It should only take approximately 5 - 10 per employee to complete the entire payroll transaction.
